Wedding Dress Alterations

The perfect fit is the final part of your bridal journey.

Your wedding dress will be ordered in the size recommended by the designers size chart, using the measurements taken when you purchase your gown. As every bride is beautifully individual, your dress will almost certainly require some alterations to achieve the perfect fit.

We are delighted to recommend an experienced independent bridal seamstress to our Brides. ‘The Studio’, where fitting appointments take place with this seamstress, is located next door to the boutique, making it a convenient option for your alterations.

IMPORTANT: ALTERATIONS ARE A SEPARATE SERVICE

Please note that using the recommended seamstress is entirely optional, alterations are a completely separate service from Shade Bridal Boutique. It is an independent service provider and is not part of Shade Bridal Boutique.

When you purchase your wedding dress from Shade Bridal Boutique, you are under no obligation to have your alterations carried out by the recommended seamstress. You are completely free to choose your own seamstress or alterations specialist if you wish.

Shade Bridal Boutique does not provide, carry out or manage your alterations.

If you choose to have your wedding dress altered by the recommended seamstress, she will take responsibility for all fittings, advice, alterations & costings of your gown. Once your wedding dress has arrived & you have attended your Celebration appointment at the boutique, we will safely store your gown until it is time for your alterations to begin.

Your alterations appointments will be arranged directly with the seamstress & she will contact you to organise your first fitting in the studio. Your full alterations quotation will be provided by the seamstress at this first fitting. All alterations fees are paid directly to the seamstress & are completely separate from Shade Bridal Boutique.

**Shade Bridal Boutique does not take payment for alterations, provide quotations for alterations or have any involvement in the financial arrangement between yourself & the seamstress.**

TRUST THE PROCESS

If you choose to have your wedding dress altered by the recommended seamstress. She will contact you directly to organise your first fitting appointment. Fittings will usually start 10-12 weeks before your wedding date & most would expect three fitting appointments; depending on the level of alterations required. Your second would be at your half way point, approx 5 weeks before and your final fitting is usually 2 weeks before your wedding day.

The cost of your alterations will vary depending on how much work is needed, depending on the level of detail on your dress, how many layers & what is required to achieve the perfect fit. A full quote will be provided by the seamstress after your first fitting. If you then wish to seek advice from elsewhere this is completely fine - please let the seamstress know at this point.

After your final fitting your dress will have been steamed and prepped ready for the day, you will also have the option to leave it with Emma at the boutique until the week of the wedding too.

ALTERATIONS - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Fittings usually start 10-12 weeks before your wedding date, with your final fitting around 2 weeks before your wedding day.

  • Usually 3 fittings would be sufficient for standard alterations. If there are custom elements, that may require additional visits. The seamstress will advise at your first fitting.

  • If you chose to use the recommended Seamstress, all of your fitting appointments will be held in ‘The Studio’ which is located next to the boutique. Parking is in the usual parking bays behind the boutique.

  • Fittings appointments are usually 40mins to an hour. This allows the seamstress the required time to ensure that you are happy with how your dress is looking and feeling throughout the process.

  • Every Bride & every dress is different, so it is not possible to give a cost before your first fitting.

    The cost will depend on the construction of your gown, the number of layers, lace, beading and detailing, as well as the alterations required to achieve your perfect fit.

    As a general guide our Brides budget between £400-£600 for alterations, although your individual cost may be higher or lower.

    ***This is additional to the cost of your dress - it is an external service to the boutique and is payable direct to the seamstress.***

    Emma will not be able to advise you with a cost for this. Please speak to your seamstress.

  • Guests at your fitting are limited to 2 people. Fitting appointments are crucial to achieve the look you want for your wedding day. We hope you understand, please respect this request by the seamstress.

  • You will need to bring along:

    • The shoes that you will be wearing on your wedding day. Your shoes are crucial to determine the length of your dress.

    • The underwear that you plan on wearing under your dress. Underwear should be seamless and nude, the closest colour to your skin tone.

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to take on any additional work from outside the boutique.

  • If you would like to look at accessories please arrange for an accessories appointment at the boutique with Emma. Fittings are appointments focused on the fit of your dress.
